The Okanagan Food & Wine Writers’ Workshop is a professional development and gastronomic experience developed by Canadian writer Jennifer Cockrall-King. In 2016, the 7th workshop comes to life again in Kelowna, British Columbia, in the Okanagan Valley, an unparalleled food and wine region in North America.
The workshop is open to writers of all levels, and is designed to inform, inspire, and motivate writers as they move their careers forward through professional development workshops. The workshop's experiential elements “out in the field” connect food, wine and travel writers with the top chefs, bakers, winemakers, cheesemakers, fishmongers, restaurateurs, growers, distillers, orchardists and foragers of the region. Most of all, Okanagan Food & Wine Writers’ establishes a growing collegial network of food, wine and travel writers in what can be a solitary and remote occupation.
The 2016 workshop begins Friday afternoon (September 30) through Sunday afternoon (October 2) and features small group discussions and hands-on writing sessions from some of North America's best food, wine and travel writers and editors. The workshop is based around initmate professional development opportunities combined with exclusive culinary and winery experiences in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia.
The 2016 workshop takes place at The Manteo Resort Waterfront Hotel & Villas which is located directly on the shores of Lake Okanagan in Kelowna's historic Mission district. Special workshop attendee room rates are available-but book soon to avoid disappointment as there are only a limited number of these rooms available and the workshop takes place in peak season in the Okanagan.
Past participants have gone on to publish their first food articles to landing cookbook deals. It's a one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity in Canada for writers of all levels.
